Individual members of the Angling Trust are protected by Public Liability and Personal Accident insurance as a benefit of their membership. Coverage applies while taking part in recognised angling activities, in line with your membership type.
The recognised activities covered under this insurance:
- Angling (includes all disciplines in freshwater or at sea, from land or watercraft)
- Casting, including competitions
- Bankside access and clearance for angling reasons, for example, cutting back branches or vegetation (strictly with permission of the site’s management)
- Use of boats/watercraft under 8m in length (but not boat charter)
Worldwide insurance cover
The insurance covers any angling activities done in the UK and on temporary visits abroad. In the USA and Canada, only temporary visits less than 90 days would be covered.
When does my insurance expire?
As the insurance is included within your membership package, as long as you stay up-to-date with your Angling Trust membership, your insurance will be valid. The cover provided may change on the 25 October annually and an updated summary is available to members at that time.

Important information for individual members
With a limit of indemnity of up to £10m protecting individual members if held responsible and are accidentally negligent for causing injury to someone else or damage to someone’s property. The cover applies whilst undertaking the Angling Trust recognised activity.
Please note that with effect from the 24 August 2020 to the 24 August 2022 a communicable disease exclusion applied to this section of the insurance policy.
Covered for a limit up to £10m protecting against individual members if held responsible for breach of professional duty arising from negligent act error or omission of a Qualified Person arising from their Angling Trust recognised Activity. This section includes a libel and slander extension.
This section is written on a claims made basis and is subject to retroactive date 25 July 2017. It is essential that any claims or circumstances that might give rise to a claim are notified during the policy period in accordance with the terms of the policy wording otherwise the right for indemnity under this insurance will be forfeited.
Personal accident insurance which provides “no fault” benefits should an injury happen to an insured person whilst undertaking an activity as recognised under your Angling Trust insurance policy.
