Protect your club's building and belongings

Your club isn't just about players and coaches: you've got the clubhouse, grounds, and equipment to take care of too.

As an RFU affiliated club, your liabilities are automatically covered. But to fully protect your club, you can buy property insurance approved by the RFU at special rates.

What does property insurance cover?

Property insurance covers your physical buildings and your belongings. So that’s your premises, business equipment, and stock – all the things you need for your club to function. With this cover in place, if they are damaged or lost due to an unexpected event, like a storm, flood, or a fire, you’re financially protected.

Buildings insurance

Your buildings are where you hold meetings, prepare for matches, and store your essential equipment. So it makes sense to protect them with Buildings insurance that’s approved by the RFU. This covers your:

  • Outbuildings
  • Changing rooms
  • Clubhouses
  • Pavilions
  • Gyms
  • Playing surfaces
  • Pitches
  • Scoreboards
  • Fixed floodlights
  • Goal posts
  • Fixtures and fittings
  • Car parks
  • Walls
  • Fencing
  • Pipes

You’re also covered for accidental damage and subsidence to your main building as standard.

Contents insurance

Your contents are your club’s belongings that you use day to day. Broadly, these are the things you’d take with you if you moved premises. This includes:

  • Fixtures and fittings
  • Tenants’ improvements to the property
  • Fixed glass
  • Office equipment
  • Furniture
  • Machinery, plant, and maintenance equipment
  • Sports equipment stock
  • Cups, trophies, and silverware
  • Fine art
  • Stock
  • Food and drink

Full all-risks cover includes:

  • Accidental damage and breakdown
  • Costs due to broken glass
  • Loss of money
  • Lock replacement
  • Refrigerated stock
  • Contents temporarily removed from your premises, including for cleaning or repair
  • Losses from dishonesty

For a claim for theft of property to be valid, you’ll need to show evidence of forced or violent entry or exit from a secure place. You’ll also need to meet the minimum security conditions, to show you’ve taken care to secure your property.

Sports equipment and portable property

Your club doesn’t stand still, with transporting equipment a constant. Portable equipment cover protects your electronic equipment, sports equipment, portable plant, machinery, and maintenance equipment while on the move.

Business Interruption insurance

This offers protection for loss of income if your insured property – your buildings, contents, or equipment – are damaged by an unexpected event. This could be a fire or a storm that stops you from operating as usual, for example. This is included as standard and also covers increased costs, such as staff training, while you minimise more loss for your club.

Property insurance optional add-ons

On top of the standard property policy, you can choose to add cover for other risks, including:

  • Loss of licence: This protects the club’s losses and expenses for up to £50,000 if you lose your licence to sell alcohol and have to close your bar.
  • Legal expenses:  This provides legal support to help you navigate conflicts with neighbours, landlords, and staff. That’s cover for expenses in and out of court when you’re pursuing or defending your legal rights.
  • Theft by employees: Provides up to £10,000 of cover for theft of money by members of staff. This includes investigation costs, legal action, and any extra losses that happen due to the theft.
